2、tandmultifacetedroleinChina’seconomicdevelopment.Atthesametime,China’sexpandedroleintheworldeconomyisbeneficialtoallitstradingpartners.RegionsthattradewithChinabenefitfromcheaperandmorevarietiesofimportedconsumergoods,rawmaterialsandintermediateproducts.Chinaisalsoalargeandgro
3、wingexportmarket.Whiletheentryofanymajortradingnationintheglobaltradingsystemcancreateaprocessofadjustment,theoutcomeisfundamentallyawin-winsituation.Inthispaperwewouldliketoprovideasurveyofthevariousinstitutions,lawsandcharacteristicsofChina’strade.Amongsomeofthefindings,weca
4、nhighlightthefollowing:·In2001,totaltradetogrossdomesticproduct(GDP)ratioinChinais44%·In2001,47%ofChinesetradeisprocessedtrade1·In2001,51%ofChinesetradeisconductedbyforeignfirmsinChina2·In2001,36%ofChineseexportsoriginatefromGuangdongprovince·In2001,39%ofChina’sexportsgothroug
5、hHongKongtobere-exportedelsewhere2.EvolutionofChina’sTradeRegimeEquallyremarkablearethechangesinthecommoditycompositionofChina’sexportsandimports.Table2ashowsChina’sannualexportvolumesofprimarygoodsandmanufacturedgoodsovertime.In1980,primarygoodsaccountedfor50.3%ofChina’sexpor
6、tsandmanufacturedgoodsaccountedfor49.7%.Althoughtheshareofprimarygooddeclinesslightlyduringthefirsthalfof1980’s,itremainsat50.6%in1985.Sincethen,exportsofmanufacturedgoodshavegrownatamuchfasterratethanexportsofprimarygoods.Asaresult,theshareofmanufacturedgoodsincreasedto90.1%,
7、andthatofprimarygooddecreasedto9.9%by2001.Alsoshowninthosetablesarefivesubgroupsformanufacturedgoodsandprimarygoods.China’sexportwashighlydependentonitsexportsofcoal,petroleum,andpetroleumproductsuntilmid-80s.Thelargeexportvolumeofpetroleumwasalsosupportedbyasharpriseinoilpric
8、esduringtheperiod.In1985,theshareofmineralfuelsis26.1%.In1986
