3、ofapresentationofthefoundationsofthenation’sglobalcompetitivenessintermsoffactorsandresults.INTRODUCTIONWhenperformancesoffirmsandnationsareanalyzed,peopleoftenplaceinternationalcompetitivenessattheheartofthedebate.Iffirmslosemarketssharesabroad,itisbecauseofalackofinternationalc

4、ompetitiveness.Ifthecurrentaccountbalanceofaneconomyshowsadeficit,weakinternationalcompetitivenessofthecountryisputforward.However,althoughinternationalcompetitivenessisoftenreferredtoindiscussiononfirms’andnations’performances,wearetostatethatthisconceptisnotclearlydefined.Inrea

5、lity,thediversityofthedefinitionswhicharegivenaccordingtotheendswhichoneintendstoreachresultsinthesuspicionthatnotenoughattentionhasbeenpaidtowhattheconceptofinternationalcompetitivenessreallymeans.Accordingtous,itisinterestingtoemphasishowmuchtheconceptofinternationalcompetitive

6、nessisrich,byrelyingontheframeworkof“theglobalcompetitivenessofthenation”.Thepointofdepartureofourpropositionisourthoroughconvictionthatinternationalcompetitivenesscanbeenseenbothasa“result”anda“determiningfactor”.Itisthatwaywechoosetofollowinordertoclearupthevaguenessinwhichthec
