3、epapercomparesinformationtechnologytoproductiontechnologyandreviewsrelevantresearchonimpactsoftechnologyonworkorganizationandmanagementcontrol.Anapproachtotheimplementationofofficeautomationsystemsisproposed,whichisbasedonanewconceptof"offices"and"officework“.Inessence,

4、technologyisthefacilitatorofawiderrangeofchoicesinorganizationandcontrolofofficeworkthanwaspreviouslypossible.Whenthesenewchoicesareconsidered,thetechnologycanbeappliedtobothimproveorganizationalproductivityandeffectivenessandtoaccommodateemployeeneedsforflexibilityanda

5、highqualityworkife.Withofficeautomationinfluencinglargenumbersof"office"jobs,thedebateregardingtechnologyandworkisgainingmomentum.Thedebateisparticularlyimportantasevidencebeginstocontradicttheclaimsforimprovementinprofessionalandmanagerialproductivity.Itappearsthatoffi

6、ceworkischanging,butnotinthewaysthatwerepredicted.Moreimportant,itisnowclearthatsimplisticnotionsofimprovingproductivitybysubstitutingmachinesforhumanlaborintheofficearehopelesslyinadequate.Inthispaperweexaminetheimpactofofficeinformationtechnologyonproductivityandworko

7、rganizationofoffices.Ourbasicpremiseisthefollowing:technologycanbeusedtoimprovethewayofficesoperate,butaccomplishingthisrequiresrethinkingourconceptofofficesandhowtheyfunction.Threebasicissueswillbeaddressed:（1）Thetraditionalviewoftechnologyandworkislimitedinscope;itass
