1、METHOD3535SOLID-PHASEEXTRACTION(SPE)1.0SCOPEANDAPPLICATION1.1Thismethoddescribesaprocedureforisolatingtargetorganicanalytesfromaqueoussamplesusingsolid-phaseextractionmedia.Themethoddescribesconditionsforextractingorganochlorinepesticidesandphthalate

2、estersfromaqueousmatricesincludinggroundwater,wastewater,andTCLPleachatesusingdiskextractionmedia.PerformancedatafortheseextractionsareprovidedinMethod8081(organochlorinepesticides)andMethod8061(phthalateesters).Thetechniquemayalsobeapplicabletosemiv

3、olatilesandotherextractablecompounds.Othersolid-phaseextractionmediaconfigurations,e.g.,SPEcartridges,maybeemployedprovidedthatthelaboratorydemonstratesadequateperformancefortheanalytesofinterest.1.2Thismethodalsoprovidesproceduresforconcentratingext

4、ractsandforsolventexchange.1.3Themethodmaybeusedfortheextractionofadditionaltargetanalytesorothersolid-phasemediaiftheanalystdemonstratesadequateperformance(e.g.,recoveryof70-130%)usingspikedsamplematricesandanappropriatedeterminativemethodfromChapte

5、rFour(Sec.4.3).Organic-freereagentwaterisnotconsideredappropriateforconductingsuchperformancestudies.Specifically,manynon-polarorganiccontaminantspresentinanaqueoussamplearelikelytobeboundtoparticulatematterandextractionefficienciesareexpectedtobeles
