5、icyareas.ThehistoricalrootsoftheEUlieintheSecondWorldWar.Theideawasconceivedtopreventsuchkillinganddestructionfromeverhappeningagain.ThefirststepalongthepathofEuropeanunificationwastheformationoftheEuropeanCoalandSteelCommunity(ECSC)in1951byFrance,WestGermany,Italy,Belgium,Netherlands,andLuxe
6、mburg.EmboldenedbythesuccessoftheECSC,thesixcountriessoughttodeepentheircollaborationanddecidedtocreateaneconomiccommunity.Thus,in1957thecountriessignedtheTreatiesofRomewhichestablishedtheEuropeanAtomicEnergyCommunity(Euroatom)andtheEuropeanEconomicCommunity(EEC).TheEECcreatedacustomunion,eli
