4、inthisvillageoralongthecoast,makingQingdaoaplaceofstrategicimportanceintermsofcoastdefence.InordertofacilitythetransportationofmiHtarysuppliers,GongZhaoyu,anofficeroftheNorthernNavy,orderedbuildingmaterialstobetransportedfromLvshunandasimplewoodenpierwasth
5、enbuiltonthecoast.Itwasonly200meterslongandratherplaininappearance,knownasHtheZhanqiaoPieroftheNavy”or”theZhanqiaoPierontheCoast”.In1897,QingdaowasinvadedandoccupiedbyGerman.InordertotransportmilitarysuppliesfromEurope,theGermansrebuilttheoriginalpierwiths
6、tonefoundationatthenorthernendandlaidlightrailwayonthepier.Itwasextendedto350meterslongandremainedapierforthepurposeofmilitaryuse・In1922,QingdaoreturnedtoChina.In1931,QingdaoPortwasbuiltandtheZhanqiaoPierendeditshistoricalmissionofloadingandunloadingfreigh
