2、ecauseatomsarenominallyneutralpointparticles,thislimitsthetypesofinteractionthatcanbeproduced.Weproposetousethepowerfulnewplatformofcoldatomstrappednearnanophotonicsystemstoextendtheselimits,enablinganovelquantummaterialinwhichatomicspindegreesoffreedom,motionandphotonsstronglycoupleoverlong
3、distances.Inthissystem,anatomtrappednearaphotoniccrystalseedsalocalized,tunablecavitymodearoundtheatomicposition.Wefindthatthiseffectivecavityfacilitatesinteractionswithotheratomswithinthecavitylength,inawaythatcanbemaderobustagainstrealisticimperfections.Finally,weshowthatsuchphenomenashould
