2、ecauseatomsarenominallyneutralpointparticles,thislimitsthetypesofinteractionthatcanbeproduced.Weproposetousethepowerfulnewplatformofcoldatomstrappednearnanophotonicsystemstoextendtheselimits,enablinganovelquantummaterialinwhichatomicspindegreesoffreedom,motionandphotonsstronglycoupleoverlong

3、distances.Inthissystem,anatomtrappednearaphotoniccrystalseedsalocalized,tunablecavitymodearoundtheatomicposition.Wefindthatthiseffectivecavityfacilitatesinteractionswithotheratomswithinthecavitylength,inawaythatcanbemaderobustagainstrealisticimperfections.Finally,weshowthatsuchphenomenashould

4、beaccessibleusingone-dimensionalphotoniccrystalwaveguidesinwhichcouplingtoatomshasalreadybeenexperimentallydemonstrated.rappedultracoldatomsarearichresourceforphysicists.quantum-electrodynamics(QED),allowingintuitionandresultstoTIsolatedfromtheenvironmentandroutinelymanipulated,betransferred

5、fromthiswell-developedfield.Whenmanyatomstheycanactasaquantumsimulatorforawidevarietyofphys-aretrapped,thesedynamicallyinducedcavitiesmediatecoherenticalmodels1.However,althoughshort-rangeinteractionsbetweeninteractionsbetweenatoms25,26.TheinteractionscanextendoveratomscanbeadjustedbyFeshbach
