4、ningotherchromosomesorchromosomearmshasprovedmapwithlandmarksitesspacedanaverageof100kbpaparttobemoredifficult.ThedifficultiesencounteredwiththehasbeenacentralgoaloftheHumanGenomeProject.Wedevelopmentofsuchmapscanlargelybeattributedto(i)thehaveapproachedthephysicalmappingofhumanch
5、romosomecomparativelackofsimilarorderedmappingreagentsavail-11withthisgoalasaprimarytarget.Wehavefocusedonableforotherchromosomes,(ii)therelativeinefficiencyofstrategiesthatwouldutilizeyeastartificialchromosomeSTS-contentmapping,and(iii)theinherentphysicaland(YAC)technology,thuspe
6、rmittinglong-rangecoverageoftechnicallimitationsofwholegenomeYAClibraryscreeninghundredsofkilobasesofgenomicDNA,yetwesoughttoincludingtheirlargesizeandhighrateofchimerism.Weminimizetheambiguitiesinherentintheuseofthistechnol-soughttodirectlyaddresstheselimitationsduringthedevel-og
