2、aded-studshearconnector.Theaggregateisanexpandedshale,crushedpriortoburninginarotarykilntoproduceasealedsurface.Itisproducedinthreesizes—coarse,%in.toNo.4;medium,No.4toNo.16;andfine,No.16topan.Onlyonemix,asix-sackmixrecommendedbythemanufac•turer,wasusedintests.Itweighed9
3、3pcfandtestedinexcessof5,000psiat28dayswhenproperlybatched.Strengthsproducedinthesetests,however,rangedfrom3,010to5,818psi.Studsusedintestswere3^,%,%,and%-in-mdiameter.Lengthswereroughlyfourtimesthediam•eter,withsomevariation.Tensileyieldstrengthsrangedfrom61,000to69,000

6、zontalposition.Thenextday,thespecimenwasturnedover,andanidenticalslabwascastontheotherflange.Flangesweregreasedbeforetheslabswerecasttopreventbondandtoreducetheeffectoffrictionduringtesting.Specimenswerecuredwithwetburlapandtestedwhenthefirstslabwas28daysold.Figure2shows
