3、5visibleminorityindividualsinOttawaaccountingfor18percentofthecity’spopulation.ThesizeofVMpopulationisgrowingrapidlyatfourtimesthepaceoftheoverallpopulation(28percent,comparedtothe7.3percent).Visibleminoritypopulationaccountedforalmost57percentofOttawa’spopulationgrowth.Consequently,itisexpe
4、ctedthatinOttawathevisibleminoritypopulationwillassumeagrowingimportanceasasegmentoflocalcitizenry.Thispresentationexploresthesocio-economiccharacteristicsofthevisibleminoritygroupsofOttawa.VisibleMinorityPopulationmuchyoungerthanthenon-visibleminoritypopulationAlmosthalf(43percent)ofOttawa’
5、sVMpopulationisyoungerthan24years.Thiscomparesto30percentamongthenon-visibleminoritypopulation.Proportionally,theyoungermiddleagegroups(25-44)arecomparable(35vs32percent).Butthereisahigherproportionof45-64yearoldsamongthenon-visibleminoritygroups.Only5percentoftheVMpopulationisaged65yearsand
6、over.Thiscomparedto12percentamongthenon-visibleminoritypopulation.Implication:Proportionallyhighereconomicdependenceratio;higherschoolattendancerates;Higherdemandforchildandyouthrelatedservices.HigherschoolattendanceamongVMgroups–partlyduetoprevalenceofyoungeragegroups.25percentofOttawa’sVMp
