3、lityindices.However,somedisadvantagesoftheTaguchimethodexistsuchas,itsrelianceuponsamplesoccurringatspecifiedlevels,resultstobevalidatonlythecurrentdesignpoint,anditsexpensivenesstomaintainacertainlevelofconfidence.Recently,ithasbeenshownthattheEDRmethodcanaccuratelyprovideananalysisof
4、variance,similartothatoftheTaguchimethod,butisnothinderedbytheaforementioneddrawbacksoftheTaguchimethod.ThisisevidentbecausetheEDRmethodisbaseduponfundamentalstatistics,wherethestatisticalinformationforeachdesignparameterisusedtoestimatetheuncertaintypropagationthroughengineeringsystem
5、s.Therefore,theEDRmethodprovidesmuchmoreextensivecapabilitiesthantheTaguchimethod,suchastheabilitytoestimatenotonlymeanandstandarddeviationoftheresponse,butalsotheskewnessandkurtosis.TheuniquenessoftheEDRmethodisitsabilitytogeneratetheprobabilitydensityfunction(PDF)ofsystemperformances
6、.Thiscapability,knownastheprobabilistic“what-if”study,providesavisualrepresentationoftheeffectsofthedesignparameters(e.g.,itsmeanandvariance)upontheresponse.Inaddition,theprobabilistic“what-if”studycanbeappliedacrossmultipledesignparameters,allowingtheanalysisofinteractionsamongcontrol
7、factors.Becauseoftheseadvantages,itisapparentthattheEDRmethodprovidesanalternativeplatformofqualityengineeringtotheTaguchimethod.Foreasyexecutionbyfieldengineers,theproposedplatformfor3qualityengineeringusingtheEDRmethod,knownasQuickQualityQuantification(Q),willbedevelopedasaMicrosof
