2、hlab)andPrunusmahaleb(whitemahlab)seedswerecharacterizedfortheirphysicochemicalproperties.Theoilcontentwasfoundtobe30.95and13.15%inwhiteandblackmahlabseeds,respectively.Therefractiveindicesofwhitemahlaboil(WMO)andblackmahlaboil(BMO)were1.475and1.470,andspecificgravities
3、were0.8511and0.8167g/cm^sup3^,respectively.Saponificationvalueswere184.23and180.3mgKOH/g,peroxidevalueswere2.54and4.43meq/kg,andunsaponifiablematterwas0.92and0.66%,respectively.Themajorfattyacidswerepalmitic4.5%,stearic16.0%,oleic47.3%,andlinoleic31.4%inBMO,whileinWMOth
4、eywerepalmitic5.7%,oleic45.0%,andlinoleicacid47.0%.Amoderateamountoftocopherolswerefoundat45.2and28.5mg/100ginBMOandWMO,respectively.Proteincontentwasfoundtobe21%inblackand28%inwhitemahlabseeds.Thetotalamountofaminoacidsinblackandwhitemahlabseedswasfoundtobe783.3and1,22

7、re,isblackmahlab(Monechmaciliatum),whichiswellknowninSudanandbelongstothefamilyAcanthaceae.Blackmahlabisanannualglabrousherb,30-65cmhigh[4],withsimpleleavesmeasuringabout4-7×1-2cm[5].Blackmahlab(Monechmaciliatum)isafamousmedicinalplantinwesternSudan,especiallyintheNubaM
