3、ecaredfor.Bythinkingofourworldas"spaceshipearth"itiseasiertoenvisionthedamageathrowawaysocietyhas,thepreciousnatureofournaturalresourcesandtheimportanceofrenewingtheresourceswestillhaveleft.Ourair:The1990FederalAirToxicsInventoryrankedPassaicCountyas6thintheStateofNewJerseyfor
4、toxicemissions.52%ofthosetoxinswerefoundtocomefrommanageablesources.Ofthese,38%werefrommobilesources(withcarsandtrucksmakingup29%)and9%fromnon-roadvehiclessuchaslawnmowersandboats.Another32%werefromsolventssuchasthoseusedindegreasers,pesticidesandcleaners.Ourwater:Theearthhasa
5、hugeamountofwater,yetonlyabout1%isfreshandusable.In1988,theNewJerseyDepartmentofEnvironmentalProtection(NJDEP)foundthat71%ofourmonitoredstreamsandriversweretoopollutedfrombacteriatoallowswimming.Theyalsofoundthat28%ofourcoastalwatershadtobeclosedtoshellfishharvesting.Oursoil:A
