2、xidesatpresent.However,thequestionofhowchemicaldefectsinfluencethepropertiesofnanoscalezincoxidematerialshasseldombeenaddressed.Inthispaper,wereportontheintroductionofdefectsintonanoscaleZnO,theircomprehensiveanalysisusingacombinationoftechniques(powderX-raydiffraction(PXRD)
3、,X-rayabsorptionspectroscopy/extendedX-rayabsorptionfinestructure(XAS/EXAFS),electronparamagneticresonance(EPR),magic-anglespinningnuclearmagneticresonance(MAS-NMR),Fourier-transforminfrared(FTIR),UV-vis,andphotoluminescence(PL)spectroscopiescoupledwithab-initiocalcula-tions
4、),andtheinvestigationofcorrelationsbetweenthedifferenttypesofdefects.Itisseenthatdefect-richzincoxidecanbeobtainedunderkineticallycontrolledconditionsofZnOformation.Thisisrealizedbythethermolysisofmolecular,organome-tallicprecursorsinwhichZnOispre-organizedonamolecularscale.
5、ItisseenthattheseprecursorsformZnOatlowtempera-turesfarfromthermodynamicequilibrium.TheresultingnanocrystallineZnOisrichindefects.Dependingonconditions,ZnOofhighmicrostructuralstrain,highcontentofoxygenvacancies,andparticularcontentofheteroatomimpuritiescanbeob-tained.Itissh
