5、roandinvivoevidencesuggestthattheymayalsohavedirectantitumoreffectsviainductionofapoptosis,inhibitionoftheinvasivepotentialoftumorcelllinesinvitro,inhibitionofangiogenesis,andreductionintumorgrowthindirectlyviaeffectsonaccessorycells.Thisisarandomized,openlabel
6、,prospectivestudythatexaminedtheeffectofpreventivezoledronicacidtreatmentonthedevelopmentofbonemetastasesinpatientswithrecurrentsolidtumors,withoutbonemetastasesatthetimeofrandomization.Methods:Fortypatientswithrecurrentormetastaticadvancedcancer,withoutbonemet
7、astases,wereran-domizedintothetrialtoeitherreceivezoledronicacidornotreatment.Patientswerefollowedupuntilbonemetastaseswereestablished.Results:Thepercentageofpatientsbeingbonemetastasesfreeat12mowas60%inthezoledronicacidand10%inthecontrolgroup(p<0.0005),whileth
8、epercentagesat18mowere20%and5%respectively(p=0.0002).Conclusions:Theresultshaveshownthatbisphosphonatesasadjuvanttreatmentmightbeusefulforthepreventionofbonemetastases;howev
