2、T:Thispaperdescribesthevariousmethodsforenhancingtheenergyefficiencyofinduceddraftfansincoalfiredthermalpowerplants.Theauxiliarypowerusedbyinduceddraftfansformsabout1.4%to1.8%ofthetotalgrossenergygeneration.IDfansarethesecondlargest(inrating)motorinathermalpowerplantafterBoiler

3、FeedPump(BFP).Thedetailedenergyauditofauxiliaryequipmentinvariousthermalpowerstations,operationaloptimizationandappropriatecontrolsystemhadshownamplescopeforimprovingtheenergyefficiencyofinduceddraftfans.Theimplementationofenergyconservationmeasuresreducetheaverageauxiliarypowe

4、rusedbyIDfansfor210MWplantfrom1.63%to0.97%ofgrossenergygenerationandtheenergyconservationschemesareeconomicallyattractivewithapaybackperiodof1to5years.KEYWORDS:Energyefficiency,Auxiliarypower,fanefficiency,SEC,VFD,excessair1.IntroductionCoalfiredstationsarethebackboneofIndianpo

5、wergeneratingsectorandaccountforover76%ofthegeneratedpower[1,2].Thenetoverallefficiencyofcoalfiredthermalpowerplantsareintherangeof19.23%(30MWplant)and30.69%(500MWplant).Theauxiliarypowerisvaryingbetween7%(500MWplant)and12%(30MWplant).Thethermalpowerplantavailabilitydependslarg

6、elyupontheoperationalreliabilityoftheauxiliaryequipmentandthecapabilityoftheauxiliarysystem[3].Theboilersusedforpowergenerationgenerallyworkontheprincipleofbalanceddraftsystemi.e.,bothForcedDraft(FD)&PrimaryAir(PA)fansforpushingairintothefurnaceandInducedDraft(ID)fanstosuckthef

7、luegasfromthefurnace&throwoutthefluegastoatmospherethroughchimney.Figure1givestheschematicoffluegascircuitinthermalpowerplant.Ineachpowerboiler,generallytherewillbetwoIDfansforplantsizeof210MW&belowsizeandfourIDfansfor500MWplants.IDfanshavetohandlelargequantityoffluegasathigher
