3、plusescalatingcostsfornewpowersources–theNorthwestEnergyEfficiencyTaskforcewascreatedtoidentifyandrecommendpromisingopportunitiesforgreaterenergyefficiencyachievementintheNorthwest.Energyefficiencytranscendsregionalboundaries.InanApril25lettersenttogovernors,utilityleadersandpolicymakersthrough
4、outtheWest,15Westernelectricindustryleaderscalledforgreatercollaborationinaddressingtheseissues,stating“toachievethevisionofacleanenergyfuture,wewillneedtore-thinkandre-toolourenergysupply.Energyefficiencyisstillthemosteconomicalresource.Allofusmustworktomaximizethebenefitsofenergyefficiency,ad
5、vancedmeteringtechnologiesandotherdemand-sideprogramsforcustomersandourelectricalsystem.”Energyefficiencypresentsopportunitiestoprovidethelowestcostresourceoptionforaddressingprojectedloadincreasesamidsttheincreasingcostofgenerationalternatives.Energyefficiencycanprovideadditionalbenefitsaspowe
6、rsupplypricesrise:increasedsystemreliability,ahedgeagainstrisk,transmissionanddistributionsystempeakreductionandadecreasedNorthwestcarbonfootprint.Marketsforenergyefficiencyproductsandservicescancreatecompetitionwithgenerationalternatives,therebyloweringnewresourcecosts.Theneedtofocusonenergyef
