2、nation•internationalpatentapplicationvolumes.tothesecond-largestglobaleconomybehindtheUnitedStatesintermsofbothpurchasingpowerand,moreUsingdatafromtheThomsonReutersvalue-addedrecently,grossdomesticproduct(GDP).ChinahasjustpatentcollectionDerwentWorldPatentsIndex(DWPI),complete

3、dthe11thFive-YearPlanforNationalEconomicthetrendsinpatentingaccordingtothenumbersofandSocialDevelopment.Thisplanhighlightedpublishedpatentapplicationscanbecomparedfortheinnovationasafocus,andthecorrespondingscienceandfivejurisdictions.technologyplanarticulatedthecountry’sgoalt

4、obecomeLookingatthetotalvolumesofpublishedpatentaninnovation-orientedsocietyby2020.Manyoftheapplicationsfromthefivepatentofficesfrom2006todevelopmentsofthepastfiveyearsillustratehowfar2010(Figure1),Japanhasthehighestvolumesyear-to-Chinahasmovedtowardsthatgoal.yearduringtheperi

5、od,butitsleadnarrowsastheTherecentlyreleased12thFive-YearPlansetsaUnitedStatescatchesup.EuropeandKoreahavesimilarnumberofchallenginggoalsaimedatcontinuingthevolumesandgrowthtrends.Thestrikingdifferencetransitionfrom‘MadeinChina’to‘DesignedinChina’.amongtheseregionsisinChina–it
