3、eofinterfaceelementforfracturemechanicssharingsomeanalogieswiththenode-to-segment(in2D)andwiththenode-to-surface(in3D)contactelements.Thedisplacementgapofanodebelongingtothe niteelementdiscretizationofonecrackfacewithrespecttoitsprojectedpointontheop-positefaceisusedtodeterminethecohesivetractions,t

4、heresidualvectoranditsconsistentlinearizationforanimplicitsolutionscheme.Thefollowingad-vantageswithrespecttoclassicalinterface niteelementsaredemonstrated:(i)non-matching niteelementdiscretizationsoftheoppositecrackfacesispossible;(ii)easymodellingofcohesivecrackswithnon-propagatingcracktips;(iii)t
