2、iorunderseismicloadsandforimplementingthisknowledgeintodesignprovisions.Inparticular,methodsfordesigningBRBFsandpredictingseismicresponserequirevalidation.Toaddressthisneed,alongwiththeneedforexperimentsdemonstratingsystem-levelBRBFperformance,aresearchprogramcomposedofnumericalandlarge

3、-scaleexperimentalsimulationswasinitiatedattheATLSSCenter,LehighUniversity.Thispaperdescribesthenonlineardynamicanalysesthatwereconductedaspartofthisresearchprogram.NumericalsimulationsofBRBFresponsewereconductedusinggroundmotionrecordsscaledtotwoseismichazardlevels.Theperformanceofthep

4、rototypeBRBFwasacceptableandperformanceobjectivesweremetintermsofstructuraldamage.Itisshownthatthecurrentlyaccepteddeflectionamplificationfactorunderestimatesmeaninelasticlateraldisplace-mentsunderdesign-levelearthquakesandthesystemoverstrengthfactormaybeunconservative.Thecurrentmethodfor
