3、gradiometer,incombinationwithascientificon-boardGPSreceiver,measurestheearthsgravityfieldwithunprecedentedaccuracy.ThesemeasurementshavebeenusedtocomputeGOCEgravityfieldsolutionsandcombinedGOCE/GRACEsolutions.Themaindifferencebetweenthesolutionsishowthey

4、incorporatetherequiredaprioriinformation,whichconsistseitherofexistinggravityfieldmodelsorKaulasruleforthesignalvariancesofthegravityfield.WeassessedfourseriesofmodelsbycomparingthegravitygradientstheypredictwiththemeasuredGOCEgradients.Theanalysisofthe

5、gravitygradientsfitsmayrevealdifferencesbetweenthedifferentsolutionsthatcanbeattributedtothesolutionstrategy,assumingthatthemeasurementerrorsarehomogeneous.WecomparedtheGOCEgradientswithexistingstate-of-the-artglobalgravityfieldmodelsandconcludethattheg

6、radienterrorsareindeedgloballyhomogeneous,withGJIGravity,geodesyandtidestheexceptionofthecross-trackgradientespeciallysouthofAustralia.Furthermore,wefindthattheuseofexistingglobalgravityfieldmodelsasaprioriinformationshouldbeavoidedbecausethismayincreas
