2、tofMentalHealth,Orangeburg,NewYork,USAABSTRACT:Electroencephalographic(EEG)changeswithnormalaginghavelongbeenreported.Departuresfromage-expectedchangeshavebeenobservedinmildcognitiveimpairmentanddementia,themagni-tudeofwhichcorrelateswiththedegreeofcognitive
3、impairment.Suchabnormalitiesincludeincreaseddeltaandthetaactivity,decreasedmeanfrequency,andchangesincoherence.Similarfindingshavebeenreportedusingmagnetoencephalography(MEG)atrestandduringperformanceofmentaltasks.Electrophysiologicalfeatureshavealsobeenshow
4、ntobepredictiveoffuturedeclineinmildcognitiveimpairment(MCI)andAlzheimer’sdisease(AD).Wehaverecentlyreportedresultsfrominitialquantitativeelectroencephalography(QEEG)evaluationsofnormalel-derlysubjects(withonlysubjectivereportsofmemoryloss),predictingfuturec
5、ognitivedeclineorconversiontodementia,withhighpredictionaccuracy(approximately95%).Inthisreport,sourcelocalizationalgo-rithmswereusedtoidentifythemathematicallymostprobableunder-lyinggeneratorsofabnormalfeaturesofthescalp-recordedEEGfromthesepatientswithdiff
6、erentialoutcomes.UsingthisQEEGmethod,ab-normalitiesinbrainregionsidentifiedinstudiesofADusingMEG,MRI,andpositronemissiontomography(PET)imagingwerefoundinthepre-morbidrecordingsofthosesubjectswhogoontodeclineorconverttodementia.KEYWORDS:electromagneticimaging
