2、ndbespokesuits.In1910,thethrivingbusinessrelocatedtoLeeds,whereArcadiaGroupretainsamajorofficelocationtothisday.TheadventoftheFirstWorldWarin1914providedMontaguewithfurtherexpansionopportunitiesashisgrowingbusinesssuppliedclothingforaquarterofthearmedforces.Bytheendoftheconflict,Burtonemploy

3、ed132staffatitsLeedsheadquarters.Intheearly1920s,MontaguebegantodeveloptheHudsonRoadfactoryinLeeds.Within15yearstheenterprise(whichtodayisthelocationforArcadiaGroup'saccountingandfacilitiesteams)hadbecomethelargestclothingfactoryinEurope.Montagueadoptedaphilanthropicapproachtobusiness,whichw

4、asevidentwhenheimplementedawelfareofficeattheHudsonRoadfactory,providingworkerswithmeals,adentistandaneyespecialisttotreateyestrainbroughtonbycloseneedle-work.In1931Montaguereceivedaknighthoodfor'servicestoindustrialrelations';healsoservedasaJusticeofthePeaceformanyyears.BytheendoftheSecondW

5、orldWarBurtonwasestimatedtobeclothingaroundafifthoftheBritishmalepopulation.In1946MontaguemadehisfirstforayintowomenswearwiththeacquisitionofthePeterRobinsonwomen’sfashionchain.In1952,theyearinwhichSirMontaguedied,thecompanyhefoundedcomprisedastaggering616stores,makingitthelargestmultipletai

6、lorintheworld.Themid-1960ssawtheunveilingofTopshop–a‘youngfashiondepartment’withinPeterRobinson,andin1969thebusinesschangeditsnametoTheBurtonGroup.Ayearlater,TopmanwaslaunchedasacounterparttoTopshop,cateringtoayoungmaleaudienceandwithin12monthsTheGrouphadaddedEvanstoitsportfolioofbusinesses.

7、Themid-1970ssawthefirststandaloneTopshopstoreopenitsdoors,thuscementingitsreputationasoneofthehighstreet’sleadingfashionretailers.FollowingtheacquisitionofDorothyPerkinsin1979andanextendedperiodofgrowththroughoutthe1980sand1990s,TheBurtonGroupdemer
