1、ChinaUniversityofMiningandTechnology(CUMT)isoneofthekeynationaluniversitiesunderthedirectadministrationoftheChina’sMinistryofEducation.ItisalsooneoftheuniversitieswhichhostagraduateschoolwiththeapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,andoneofthatinthenational“211p
2、roject”,agovernmentprogramdesignedtosupportandimprovetop-levelinstitutionsofhigherlearninginChina.CUMTgrewoutofJiaozuoSchoolofRailroadandMines,whichwasestablishedin1909andwaslaterexpandedandrenamedJiaozuoInstituteofTechnology.In1950,JiaozuoInstituteofTechno
3、logymovedtoTianjinandwasrenamedtheChinaInstituteofMiningandTechnology(CIMT).ItbecamethefirsthigherlearninginstitutioninthefieldofmininginChina.In1952,duringanationalreadjustmentofhigherlearninginstitutions,theminingengineeringdepartmentsofTsinghuaUniversity
4、andthenow-defunctBeiyangandTangshanRailroadUniversitiesweremergedintoCIMT.In1953,theInstitutemovedtoBeijingandwasrenamedBeijingInstituteofMiningandTechnology(BIMT),whereitbecameoneoftheeightmostrenownedinstitutesinBeijing.In1960,BIMTwasratedakeyuniversityin
5、thenation.DuringtheperiodoftheCulturalRevolution,itmovedtoSichuanProvinceandwasrenamedtheSichuanInstituteofMiningandTechnology.In1978,withtheapprovaloftheStateCouncil,anewcampuswasestablishedinXuzhou,JiangsuProvince,withtheschoolnamerestoredtoCIMT,andwasrat
6、edbythegovernmentasoneofChina’s88keystateuniversities.In1988,theinstitutionwasformallyrenamedtheChinaUniversityofMiningandTechnology(CUMT),andin1997,asecondcampusinBeijingwasestablishedwiththeapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation.Astheoldesthigherlearninginstitu
7、tionwithafocusonminingengineeringinthecountry,CUMThasbeenandcontinuestoreceivemuchattentionandsupportfromleadersofthecentralgovernment.OnMay11,1988,DengXiaopinginscribedinhisownhandwritingthenameofCUMT(itappearsonthecoverofthisbrochure)whichisamarkofgreatdi
