4、chingpureandunadulteratedsocialism.Businessmenwhotalkthiswayareunwittingpuppetsoftheintellectualforcesthathavebeenunderminingthebasisofafreesocietythesepastdecades.Thediscussionsofthe"socialresponsibilitiesofbusiness"arenotablefortheiranalyticalloosenessandlack
5、ofrigor.Whatdoesitmeantosaythat"business"hasresponsibilities?Onlypeoplecanhaveresponsibilities.Acorporationisanartificialpersonandinthissensemayhaveartificialresponsibilities,but"business"asawholecannotbesaidtohaveresponsibilities,eveninthisvaguesense.Thefirsts
6、teptowardclarityinexaminingthedoctrineofthesocialresponsibilityofbusinessistoaskpreciselywhatitimpliesforwhom.Presumably,theindividualswhoaretoberesponsiblearebusinessmen,whichmeansindividualproprietorsorcorporateexecutives.Mostofthediscussionofsocialresponsibi
