3、gexperiencesthroughastructuralequationmodelingapproachinthecontextofTOEFLiBT®testing.DatafromtheTOEFLiBTpublicdatasetwereused.Theresultsshowedthattesttakers’performanceonthetest’sfourskillsections,namelylistening,reading,writing,andspeaking,couldbeaccounte
4、dforbytwocorrelatedlatentcomponents:theabilitytolisten,read,andwrite,andtheabilitytospeakEnglish.Thistwo-factormodelheldequivalentlyacrosstwogroupsoftesttakers,withonegrouphavingbeenexposedtoanEnglish-speakingenvironmentandtheotherwithoutsuchexperience.Imp
5、osingameanstructureonthefactormodelledtothefindingthatthegroupsdidnotdifferintermsoftheirstandingsonthefactormeans.Therelationshipbetweenlearningcontextsandthelatentabilitycomponentswasfurtherexaminedinstructuralregressionmodels.Theresultsofthisstudysugges
6、tedanalternativecharacterizationoftheabilityconstructoftheTOEFLtest-takingpopulation,andsupportedthecomparabilityofthelanguageabilitydevelopedinthehome-countryandthestudy-abroadgroups.Theresultsalsoshedlightontheimpactofstudyingabroadandhome-countrylearnin
