5、dergapsinemploymentrates,earnings,andcollegeattendancevarysubstantiallyacrosstheparentalincomedistribution.Notably,thetraditionalgendergapinemploymentratesisreversedforchildrengrowingupinpoorfamilies:boysinfamiliesinthebottomquintileoftheincomedistributionarelesslikelytowork
6、thangirls.Second,thesegendergapsvarysubstantiallyacrosscountiesandcommutingzonesinwhichchildrengrowup.Thedegreeofvariationinoutcomesacrossplacesislargestforboysgrowingupinpoor,single-parentfamilies.Third,thespatialvariationingendergapsishighlycorrelatedwithproxiesforneighbor
7、hooddisadvantage.Low-incomeboyswhogrowupinhigh-poverty,high-minorityareasworksignificantlylessthangirls.Theseareasalsohavehigherratesofcrime,suggestingthatboysgrowingupinconcentratedpovertysubstitutefromformalemploymenttocrime.Together,thesefindingsdemonstratethatgendergapsi
