3、uraldomesticresponsibilitiessetsthemupforheartbreakwhentheyarebroughtbackforaruralmar-riage.Aslongasruralhouseholdsarelefttorelyonthe“insurance”oflandandayoungergenerationtoworkitandprovidelabourofdomesticsubsistence,theywillpullsons(andwivesforthem)back
4、tothecountryside,andtrytomarrydaughterstourbanhouseholdstoexpandtheirnetworkofsecurity.Thisnewtwistonanoldmanagerialstrategysetsupatragiccon-flict:youngmenareencouragedtoreturntothecountryside,whileyoungwomenarepushedtoprovidea“unitingbridge”intothecitya
5、nd,whentheyfail,arebroughtbacktothecountrysideformarriage.IftheexperiencesoffamiliesinHuangbaiyuvillagearenotananomalybutsignalabroadertrend,agenerationofreturneeyoungwomenwhoarefrustratedandangryinruralmarriagesandabandontheirhusbandsandparents-in-lawwi
