4、isofsystematicrankingandunequalaccesstovaluedresourceslikewealth,income,powerandprestige.TheIndianCasteSystemisconsideredaclosedsystemofstratification,whichmeansthataperson’ssocialstatusisobligatedtowhichcastetheywereborninto.Therearelimitsoninteractionandbehaviorwith
5、peoplefromanothersocialstatus.ThispaperwillbeexploringthevariousaspectsoftheIndiancastesystemanditseffectsonIndiatoday.Thecastesystemisaclassificationofpeopleintofourhierarchicallyrankedcastescalledvarnas.Theyareclassifiedaccordingtooccupationanddetermineaccesstowealt
6、h,power,andprivilege.TheBrahmans,usuallypriestsandscholars,areatthetop.NextaretheKshatriyas,orpoliticalrulersandsoldiers.TheyarefollowedbytheVaishyas,ormerchants,andthefourtharetheShudras,whoareusuallylaborers,peasants,artisans,andservants.Attheverybottomarethoseconsi
7、deredtheuntouchables.Theseindividualsperformoccupationsthatareconsidereduncleanandpolluting,suchasscavengingandskinningdeadanimalsandareconsideredoutcastes.Theyarenotconsideredtobeincludedintherankedcastes.Thevarnasarethendividedintospecializedsub-castescalledjatis.Ea
