3、southernJiangsuProvincehaveconsumedahugeamountofReceived23January2009arableland.ThroughcomparativeanalysisoflandcovermapsderivedfromTMimagesin1990,2000andReceivedinrevisedform2006,weidentifiedthetrendofarablelandloss.Itisfoundthatmostarablelandislosttourbanization16September2009andrur
4、alsettlementsdevelopment.Urbansettlements,ruralsettlements,andindustrialpark-mine-Accepted21September2009transportlandincreased,respectively,by87997ha(174.65%),81041ha(104.52%),and12692haAvailableonline22October2009(397.99%)from1990to2006.Mostofthesource(e.g.,changefrom)landcoversare
5、ricepaddyfieldsanddryland.Thesetwocoverscontributedtonewlyurbanizedareasby37.12%and73.52%during1990–Keywords:2000,and46.39%and38.86%during2000–2006.However,thelossofarablelandisweaklycorrelatedArablelandRuralsustainabilitywithecologicalservicevalue,percapitanetincomeoffarmers,butposit
6、ivelywithgrainyieldforsomeUrbanizationcounties.MostareasinthestudysitehavealowarablelanddepletionrateandahighpotentialforEcoenvironmentsustainabledevelopment.MoreattentionshouldbedirectedatthosecountiesthathaveahighdepletionSouthernJiangsuProvinceratebutalowpotentialforsustainabledev
