2、tioncapabilitiesthatthesemissionswillrequire.Therewillbemanychallengesincludingthesupportofnewmissionnavigationapproachessuchasformationflyingandrendezvousindeepspace,low-energyandlow-thrustorbittransfers,preciselandingandascentvehicles,andautonomousnavigation.Innovativestrategiesandapproacheswi
3、llbeneededtodevelopandfieldadvancednavigationcapabilities.INTRODUCTIONTheNASADeepSpaceMissionSystem(DSMS)comprisesboththeDeepSpaceNetwork(DSN)antennas,withtheassociatedcommunicationandcontrolequipment,andtheAdvancedMulti-MissionOperationsSystem(AMMOS).TheAMMOSprovidestools,productsandservicestoh
4、elpoperateNASA’smissions,includingthoserequiredtodesignandnavigatemissions.DSMSperiodicallycompilesthesetoffuturemissionsthatitwillbecalledtosupportforthenexttwenty-fiveyears,inordertoforecastwhichcommunicationsandnavigationcapabilitieswillberequiredbythosemissions.DSMSusesthismissionsettostudya
5、ndplantheevolutionoftheDSNandtheAMMOS,andpreparesaroadmapforthenexttwenty-fiveyears.TheDSMSroadmaplistsstrategicgoalsmostlyinrelationtocommunicationcapabilities,butalsoincludestheimprovementofspacecrafttrackingandnavigationservicestobothenhancecurrentcapabilitiesandtoenablenewclassesoffuturemiss
6、ions.FUTUREMISSIONSET,CHALLENGESANDREQUIREDCAPABILITIESThesetoffutureNASAdeep-spacemissionschangesperiodically,asmissionsareaddedtoorremovedfromtheforecast.Thesetofmissionsinafive-yearhorizoniswellknownandfairlystable,buttryingtoforecastuptotwenty-fiveyearsfromnowrequiressomeeducatedguesswork.NA
