3、lockflankingtheMeetingGround,itsquawkedaprotestandgaveupitscatchtotherobbers.Morrhynwonderedifthiswasanomen,andifanyoftheotherwakanishasattendingtheMatakwahadobservedthedrama.Hewouldmentionitlater,hedecided,andperhapstheywoulddiscussitsmeaning;meanwhile,hehadmuchelsetooccupyhismind.Aftertheheat
4、ofthelodge,theearlymorningairstruckchillonhissweatedskinandheshruggedhisbearskincloserabouthisshoulders.Theyearwasyoungyet,theNewGrassMoonbarelyfull,buttheskypromisedbenevolence,andwhenheturnedtomakeobeisancetotheMaker’sMountain,hesawthegreatpeakshiningbrilliantintherisingsun.Perhapsthat,too,wa
5、sanomen;perhapstheMakersentasigntobalancetheother.Morrhynwasunsure:lately,hisdreamshadlefthimturbulentwithuncertainty.HefeltsomedreadfulthreatapproachedthePeople,butwhatitsnatureorwhenitshouldarriveremainedmysterious.Thispastnight,asbefore,hehaddreamedofstrangecreaturesallcladinshiningmetal,and
6、mountedonsuchbeastsasdefiedimagining,andknewtheirpurposewasevil.Attheirheadrodeafigurewhosearmorshonesun-bright,andwhosemountwashugeandblackwithwickedlycurlinghornsandeyesthatblazedfiery.Nosuchfolk,orsuchweirdlingbeasts,existedinallKet-Ta-Witko,andhefearedthemeaningofthedream,andprayedearnestly
7、thatitnotberealized.WhenitcamehisturntospeakintheDreamCouncil,hewouldtellallthistohisfellowwakanishasandseektheiradvice.Perhapsothershadsharedthedream:hecouldnotdecideifhehopedforthatconfirmationofhisoneiricpowerordreadeditscorrob
