2、thepreoperativeperiodontheanxietyofchildrenparticipatinginthetherapeuticrecreationprojectconductedattheoutpatientsurgicalcenterofHospitaldeClínicasdePortoAlegre(HCPA),PortoAlegre,Brazil.Methods:ThemodifiedYalePreoperativeAnxietyScale(mYPAS)wasadministeredto50childrenbetween5and12yearsofageund

3、ergoingmedicalproceduresattheoutpatientsurgicalcenter.Thechildrenweredividedintwogroups:recreationgroup(individualswhoparticipatedinplayfulinterventionsintherecreationroom)andcontrolgroup(individualswhodidnotparticipateinplayfulinterventions).AnxietywasmeasuredusingthemYPASattwodifferentmomen

4、ts:soonaftertheindividualsarrivedattheoutpatientsurgicalcenter(minute0)and15minutesafterthefirstmeasurement.Results:Theresultsshowedthatsoonafterarrivingattheoutpatientsurgicalcenter,thepatientsdidnothavesignificantdifferencesregardinganxiety,showinghighvalues.However,after15minuteswaitingoru

5、ndergoingintervention,thechildrenintherecreationgrouphadreducedanxietylevelsandthoseinthecontrolgroupremainedanxious.Conclusions:Duringthepreoperativeperiod,childrenwhoparticipateinplayfulactivitiesintherecreationroomhavetheiranxietyreducedincomparisonwiththosethatonlystayinthepreoperativehol
