3、finition.Wethenpresentoneperspectiveonthehistoryofsuchsites,discussingkeychangesanddevelopments.Afterbrieflysummarizingexist-ingscholarshipconcerningSNSs,wediscussthearticlesinthisspecialsectionandcon-cludewithconsiderationsforfutureresearch.doi:10.1111/j.1083-6101.2007.00393.xIntroduc
4、tionSincetheirintroduction,socialnetworksites(SNSs)suchasMySpace,Facebook,Cyworld,andBebohaveattractedmillionsofusers,manyofwhomhaveintegratedthesesitesintotheirdailypractices.Asofthiswriting,therearehundredsofSNSs,withvarioustechnologicalaffordances,supportingawiderangeofinterestsan
5、dpractices.Whiletheirkeytechnologicalfeaturesarefairlyconsistent,theculturesthatemergearoundSNSsarevaried.Mostsitessupportthemaintenanceofpre-existingsocialnetworks,butothershelpstrangersconnectbasedonsharedinterests,politicalviews,oractivities.Somesitescatertodiverseaudiences,whileo
