3、yersinacommunity,cangenerateacutelocaleconomicandsocialdisruptionandmajorproblemsoflabormarketadjustment.Notsurprisingly,deindustrializationhasoftenbeenahighly-chargedpoliticalissueatthelocallevel.ArecentpaperbyHerod(1991)inthisjournalattemptstoanalyzetherelationbetweenloca
4、lpoliticalpracticeanddeindustrializationintheUnitedStatesand,inparticular,highlightsthepartplayedbyge-ographyinthisrelation.Heseekstodothisbymeansofacasestudywhichoutlineshowastategovernorlegallyopposedtheclosureofamanufacturingplantwhichunionsacquiescedto.Thepaperraisesani
5、mportantsetofissueswhichcanbeplacedatseveralconceptuallevels.Indeed,theargumentconsistsofatleastthreedifferentlayersofab-stractionandspecificity.First,aneffortismadetoexplainthepoliticsofthecasestudy.Second,conclusionsaredrawnwhichrelatetolocalpoliticalpracticeinresponsetop
