2、establishedtheEast-WestCenterin1960toStates.FortheChinese,thisisbitterlyreminiscentofeventsaftertheFirstandfostermutualunderstandingandcooperationamongthegovern-SecondWorldWars,when,despitetheircountry’scontributionstovictory,mentsandpeoplesoftheAsiaPacificregion,includingth
3、eUnitedtheywereleftoutofthepost-wardealmaking.Today,manyinChinaStates.FundingfortheCentercomesfromtheU.S.governmentcomplainthattheWestignoredabusesunderMaoinexchangeforChina’swithadditionalsupportprovidedbyprivateagencies,individuals,partnershipagainsttheSoviets,onlytocritic
4、izeanddiscardChinawhenthecorporations,andAsianandPacificgovernments.ColdWarwaswon.CurrentfrustrationiscontributingtoanintensedebateTheAsiaPacificIssuesseriescontributestotheCenter’sroleasbetweennationalistandinternationalistschoolsoverhowChinashouldrelateaneutralforumfordisc
5、ussionofissuesofregionalconcern.Thetotherestoftheworld.FewissuessofeedthisdebateasthatofTaiwan’sviewsexpressedarethoseoftheauthorandnotnecessarilythosefuture,andrecentstirringsonthatislandandapparentshiftsinU.S.policyPublishedwiththesupportoftheoftheCenter.HawaiiPacificRimSo
