1、ResourceCenters:AFoundation’sStrategytoSupportNonprofitGranteesF.EllenNetting,FrankG.Williams,KathrynHyerResourcecenters(RCs)areonestrategyusedbyfoundationstoprovidetechnicalassistanceto,andtohelpdisseminatetheeffortsof,multisitedemonstrationprojects.FoundationgoalsmustfitwithRCpurposes.
2、EstablishingtheRCearlyinprojectdevelopment,carefullydefiningthescopeofresponsibilities,andlocatingleaderswhocansolveproblemsarecriticalconsidera-tionsforfoundationofficersconsideringthisstrategy.OUNDATIONinitiativesareoftenusedtofundmultipledemon-Fstrationsites.Withthisassistancecomescha
3、llenges(NettingandWilliams,1997).Giventhedifficultyofintegratingandinstitutionalizingprojectsindiverselocations,andtheaccompa-nyingsearchforfinancialsupporttosustaintheseinnovations,theJohnA.HartfordFoundationofNewYorkaskedtwoofustodeveloparesourcecenter(RC)thatwouldservethelargercom-m
4、unityandassistninedemonstrationsitesinanalyzinganddis-seminatingtheirprojectresults.Inaddition,inJanuary1996,thefoundationfundedanRCforitsmostrecent$8millioninitiativeinordertoestablishasourceofprogramdevelopmentsupportfromthebeginningofprojectfunding.WhereasthefirstRCemergedinresponse
