2、,oravoiceforpeace?Schooltextbooksandstatecurriculumstandardsoftenleavetheimpressionthatreligionandwargohand-in-hand.Buthistorically,theinfluenceofreligiousthoughtonbothwarandpeaceismorecomplexthanourtextbooks–andnewsmedia–wouldhaveusbelieve.In2008-2009,theNationalEndowmentfortheHumanitiesf
3、undedaseminarseries,“WarandPeaceinJudaism,ChristianityandIslam:TheInfluenceofTextsandCommentariesThroughoutHistory”co-sponsoredbyISTEP,theDepartmentofReligiousStudiesandtheCenterforIslamicandArabicStudiesatSanDiegoStateUniversity.Throughouttheyear,middleandhighschoolteachersmetwithSDSUfacu
4、ltyonaregularbasistodiscussreadingsdrawnfromeachofthereligioustraditions,andexploreapproachesfortranslatingthosediscussionsintotheclassroom.Thelessonsinthisunitrepresentthecombinedoutcomeofthoseefforts.Wewouldliketoacknowledgealloftheparticipantsfortheircollaborativeeffortsindevelopingclas
