2、ionofproductlinesandshiftsintraditionalmanufacturer-retailerrelationships,manyorganisationshavehadtorethinktheirtraditionalassumptions.Overthelasttenyearsoneofthemostsignificantchangesinmanagementthinkingwastheemphasisonthesearchforstrategiesthatwillprovidesuperiorvaluei
3、ncompetition.Logisticsmanagementhasthepotentialtoassisttheorganisationintheachievementofbothacost/productivityadvantageandavalueadvantage.Theimportanceoflogisticsanditsintegrationinthesupplychainwasarguedby.Chinaisahugeconsumermarketthataccountedforathirdofglobaleconomic
4、growthoverthepastthreeyears.Itsdevelopmentspeedandpotentialcannotbeignoredbytherestoftheworld.AsaresultofChina’sinternalandexternaleconomicattributes,mostoftheglobalconsumerbrandshaveestablishedoperationsthere.Inparticularintheautomobileindustry,manyoftheleadingglobalOEM
5、sincludingHonda,Toyota,GeneralMotors,VolkswagenandFordhaveestablishedjoint-venturepartnershipswithlocalcarmanufacturers.AutosalesinChinaroseby76%intheyeartoJuly2003andby2011,ChinaisexpectedtosurpassJapantobecometheworld’ssecondlargestautomarket.InordertocompeteintheChine
6、semarketshareandsatisfyincreasingdemand,theseoperationsarecontinuouslyexpandingtheirproductionvolumeswithastonishingspeed.Suchexpansionis,howevercarriedoutinthecontextofalegacyenvironment.Chinaspansalargegeographicalareawith,inmanyparts,under-developedinfrastructure.This
7、presentsachallengetoefficientdeploymentoflogisticsstrategies.Furthermore,theinvolvementofthirdpartylogisticsproviders,favouredbymostglobalOEMs,isanemergentconsiderationinChina.Finally,theconflictsthatinevitablyariseinthejointventurepartnershipsleadtodelaysintheintroducti
8、onofwesternlogisticsmanagementexperiencesandmethodsfromtheOEMs.Allthesefactorsincreasethedifficultiesin
