5、blishedoperationsthere.Inparticularintheautomobileindustry,manyoftheleadingglobalOEMsincludingHonda,Toyota,GeneralMotors,VolkswagenandFordhaveestablishedjoint-venturepartnershipswithlocalcarmanufacturers.AutosalesinChinaroseby76%intheyeartoJuly2003an
6、dby2011,ChinaisexpectedtosurpassJapantobecometheworld’ssecondlargestautomarket.InordertocompeteintheChinesemarketshareandsatisfyincreasingdemand,theseoperationsarecontinuouslyexpandingtheirproductionvolumeswithastonishingspeed.Suchexpansionis,however
7、carriedoutinthecontextofalegacyenvironment.Chinaspansalargegeographicalareawith,inmanyparts,under-developedinfrastructure.Thispresentsachallengetoefficientdeploymentoflogisticsstrategies.Furthermore,theinvolvementofthirdpartylogisticsproviders,favour
8、edbymostglobalOEMs,isanemergentconsiderationinChina.Finally,theconflictsthatinevitablyariseinthejointventurepartnershipsleadtodelaysintheintroductionofwesternlogisticsmanagementexperiencesandmethodsfromtheOEMs.Allthesefactorsincreasethedifficultiesin
