2、arlyatthebeginningofQingdynasty,thegovernmentbegantocarryouttheclose-doorpolicy,stoppingpeople’sinteractionwithforeigncountries(Cao48).Asaresult,whenwesterncountriesbuiltupdemocracyandquicklydevelopedtheirindustriesandliberatedtheirminds,Chinadidnothaveanopportunitytodevelopwiththe
3、msothatitbegantowane.ForenteringChinesemarketandgettingmorerawmaterialsfromChina,BritainlaunchedtheOpiumWarandforcedopenthedoorofChinawithitswarshipsandcannons.Afterthat,otherWesternpowerssuchasFrance,Russia,Japan,GermanyandtheUnitedStatesalsoinvadedChinasuccessively(Cao56),whichca
4、usedaseriesoftransformationsofpoliticalsystemandeconomyandideologyinChina.AlthoughChinesepeoplesufferedalotunderwesterncountries’invasions,theyproceededtolearnfromwesterncountriestodevelopthemselvesandgraduallysucceeded.Sofromalongview,westerncountries’invasionsinmoderntimeshavepar
5、tlyhelpedpromotethedevelopmentofChinesesociety.Firstofall,westerncountries’invasionsdeepenedChinesepeople’sresentmentoftheautocraticmonarchyandgavesomereferencesaboutdemocracytothosepatriotswhowantedtoexploreabetterkindofpoliticalsystem.In1840sand1890s,QingdynastystupidlyrepressedC
6、hinesepeople’sstruggleagainstforeigninvaders,5whichfinallycausedthedefeatofthewar.Itevensecretlysignedunequaltreatieswiththem(Zheng112).Becauseofthewesterninvasion,whichdeepenedpeople’sdissatisfactionoftheQingdynasty,peoplebegantorealizehowcowardlyandcorrupttheQingdynastywas,andfin
