3、itabinemonotherapyassafeandveryusefulforrecurrentandadvancedmetastaticbreastcancerpa-tientswhoaregenerallyassociatedwithapoorprognosis.Materialsandmethods:Capecitabineandtwoconventionalcytotoxicantineoplasticdrugs(epirubicinanddocetaxel)wereemployedinthisstud
4、yinordertocomparetheirtherapeuticantineoplasticeffects.Thetumourtissuesobtainedfrom42patientsandbreastcarcinomacelllinesweretreatedwiththechemotherapeuticagentsaboveinvitro.TheirefficacywasdeterminedusingATPBioluminescenceassaywhichmeasuresthemetabolicrate,WST
5、-1assaythatcouldquantifytheinhibitionofcellproliferationandimmunohistochemicalstudies.Theproapoptoticef-fectswasexaminedusinginsituapoptosiskit.Results:Bothsolidtumourandcelllinestreatedbycapecitabineaswellastwodrugsabovedemonstratedasignificantdecrementinmeta
6、bolicandproliferationrates.However,capecitabinetreatmentresultedinsignificantincrementofthenumberofthetumourcellsundergoingapoptosis.Conclusion:Resultsofourpresentstudydemonstratedthatcapecitabinecouldbeausefulagentagainstbreastcancercellswithlesssideeffectsan
