3、et(UASB)technologytotreatwastewatersfromamechanicalshucking,clamprocessingfacilitywasevaluated.Bothbatchandcontinuousflowstudieswereperformedatapprox.3UCtoevaluatetheeffectsofvaryingorganicloadingrate(OLR),hydraulicresidencetime(HRT),NaCIlevel,andnutrient

4、additions.Amongtheparametersmeasuredwerebio-chemicaloxygendemand(BOD5),chemicaloxygendemand(COD),totalsuspendedsolids(TSS),variousnutrientsandgasproduction.TheUASBsystemprovedtobeeffective,accomplishingsolubleBOD5,solubleCOD,andTSSremovalsof87,83and83%,re

5、spectively,underthebestconditionsconsidered(averageOLR=13.8gCOD/I/dandaverageHRT=3h).Theaverageconversionofwastewaterorganicstomethanewasintheareaof80%o.Sodiumlevelsatandabout5250mg/1significantlyimpactedontheperformanceoftheUASB.Keywords--anaerobictreatm

7、dsludge.Granulationofformanyyears,inmanydifferentconfigurationsandthesludgeisgenerallyregardedastheweaklinkinmodesofoperation(McCarty,1982).Thehigh-ratestartingaUASBsystem,so,inmanycases,granularsystemsinusetodayusuallyoperateatmesophilicsludgefromanother
