3、(PV)powerhasbeenestablishedasthefastestgrowingalternativeenergysourceintheworld.Thisextremelyfastgrowthisbroughtabout,mainly,bygovernmentpoliciesandsupportmechanismsworld-wide.SolarPVtechnologythatwasoncelimitedtospecializedapplicationsandconsideredveryexpensive,withlo
4、wefficiency,isbecomingmoreefficientandaffordable.SolarPVpromisestobeamajorcontributorofthefutureglobalenergymixduetoitsminimalrunningcosts,zeroemissionsandsteadilydecliningmoduleandinvertercosts.Withtheexpandingpracticeofmanagingdecentralizedpowersystemsaroundtheworld,
5、theroleofprivateinvestorsisincreasing.Thus,theperspectiveofallstakeholdersinthepowersystem,includingprivateinvestors,hastobeconsideredintheoptimalplanningofthegrid.Anabundanceofliteratureisavailabletoaddressthecentralplanningauthority’sperspective;however,optimalplanni
6、ngfromaninvestor’sperspectiveisnotwidelyavailable.Therefore,thisthesisfocusesonprivateinvestors’perspective.Anoptimizationmodelandtechniquestofacilitateaprospectiveinvestortoarriveatanoptimalinvestmentplaninlarge-scalesolarPVgenerationprojectsareproposedanddiscussedint
7、histhesis.Theoptimalsetofdecisionsincludesthelocation,sizingandtimeofinvestmentthatyieldsthehighestprofit.ThemathematicalmodelconsidersvariousrelevantissuesassociatedwithPVprojectssuchaslocation-specificsolarradiationlevels,detailedinvestmentcostsrepresentation,andanap
8、proximaterepresentationofthetransmissionsystem.Adetailedcasestudyconsideringtheinvestmentinlarge-scalesolarPVprojects
