3、owergenerationparadigminthefieldofpowerengineeringaseconomicandenvironmentalfactorsdrivenewtechnologiestobemoreefficientandlesspollutingthantheirearliercounterparts.AlthoughtheconceptofDGisnotnew,littleresearchhasbeendoneonthetopicandevenfewerfieldtes

4、tshavebeenperformed.Thislackofresearch,alongwithotherfactors,hassomewhatslowedtheacceptanceofDGintomarkets,otherthanindustrialorcommercialco-generationforheatandpower.ThisthesisattemptstoexamineandcomparethreetypesofDG:dieselgenerators,microturbines,a

5、ndsmallwindturbineswithinthestructureofadistributionsystem.TheDGtypesarecomparedinbothsteady-stateandtransientoperationtodeterminewhichtypeissuitableforaparticularapplication.Steady-stateoperationisexaminedunderheavyloadingconditionsandeachDGtypeiscom

6、paredonthebasisofthevoltageprofileimprovementandpowerlossreduction.Transientoperationisexaminedduringislandingconditions,aswellaslesserandmorecommonsystemeventslikeasingle-phasefault,relayoperation,andashort-termloadincreases.Theresultsindicateimprove
