4、ulatedusingalldesignatedprotectedareasrecordedintheWorldDatabaseonProtectedAreas(WDPA)whoselocationandextentisknown.TheWDPAisheldwithinafilegeodatabasethatstoresinformationaboutprotectedareassuchastheirname,typeanddateofdesignation,documentedarea,geographiclocation(point)and/orboundary(polygo

5、n).AGISanalysisisusedtocalculateterrestrialandmarineprotection.ForthisaglobalprotectedarealayeriscreatedbycombiningthepolygonsandpointsrecordedintheWDPA.Circularbuffersarecreatedaroundpointsbasedontheknownextentofprotectedareasforwhichnopolygonisavailable.Annualprotectedarealayersarecreatedby

6、dissolvingtheglobalprotectedarealayerbytheknownyearofestablishmentofprotectedareasrecordedintheWDPA.Theannualprotectedarealayersareoverlaidwithcountry/territoryboundariesandcoastlinestoobtaintheabsolutecoverage(insquarekilometers)ofprotectedareasbycountry/territoryperyearfrom1990topresent.The
