2、s-tem.Thesedays,withrecord-settinginstallationsofwindgenerationcapacityintheUnitedStates,itisdifficulttofindaninterconnectionqueuethatdoesnotcontainatleastsomewindgenerationprojects;intheareasofthecountrywithgoodorbetterwindresources,theremaybedozensofprospectiveprojectsawaitingstudy.Theresul

3、thasbeenamuchbroaderexposurewithintheelectricpowerengineeringcommunitytothetechnicalissuesandchallengesassociatedwithwindgeneration.ITheNovember2005issueofIEEEPowerandEnergyMagazinehighlightedsomeoftheinitialdiscussionsandactivitiesrelatedtotheprocessesbywhichwindgenerationfacilitiessecureapp

4、rovalforinterconnectiontothetransmissiongrid.Alsoatthattime,awarenessofthetechnicalissuesandchallengesposedbythisuniqueener-gysourcewasbeginningtogrowsignificantlyinthepowersystemengineeringcommunity.Justpriortothepubli-cationdeadlineforthatissue,theIEEEPowerEngineeringSocietytookamajorstepby
