3、sperformextremelywellinmak-ingmostdecisions.Still,thereisagrowingneedforthedevelopmentofintelligentdecisionsupportsystemsandimplementingcognitiveabilitiesinautonomousar-tificialagents,becausehumandecisionmakinghasitslimitations.Forinstance,humansituationawa

4、renessischaracterizedbystructuralbiasesandhumansareconservativeestimatorsascomparedtoapplyingforexampleBayesianstatisticsinhandlinguncertainties(Dawes,1988).Assuchhumandecisionmakingmaybesub-stantiallyimprovedwhenassistedbyintelligentdecisionsupportsystems

5、(DruzdzelandFlynn),providinganimportantsocialandeconomicincentivetodevelopsuchsystemswithintelligentbehavior.TheInteractiveCollaborativeInformationSystems(ICIS)project,whichhassupportedtheresearchreportedinthischapter,focusesonthedevelopmentofin-telligentt
