3、r(s)2013Abstract.Surfacesthatexhibitreversiblewettabilitytowardwaterareextremelyimportantforavarietyoftechnologicalapplications.Inthiscontext,thedevelopmentofsuperhydrophobicandsuperhydrophilicsurfacesforself-cleaningapplicationshasbeenreceivingagreatdealofattentioninthelastfewy

4、ears.Inthisreview,anoverviewofthecurrentstate-of-scienceandtechnologyofself-cleaningsurfacesispre-sented.Thecurrentunderstandingofphysicsofwettingleadingtosurfaceswithpredictive,controllableandreversiblewettabilityisfirstpresented.Thereviewthenfocusesonmaterials,mainlymetaloxides

5、andtheircomposites,employedforself-cleaningapplications.Itisshownthat,althoughconventionallyoxidesandpolymersareconsideredforself-cleaningapplications,recentdevelopmentspointtowardtheuseofartificiallyengineeredsurfaceswithhierarchicalroughness.Applicationsofself-cleaningfilmsinnon
