3、asamethodofsamplingandestimation.Themethodologyofconstructingstrataiscalledstratification.Overaparticularcharacteristicchosenasthestratificationvariable(suchasgender,geographicalregion,ethnicity,oranynaturalcriteria),thesurveymayfailtoformhomogeneousstrata-thisw
4、ouldimpacttheprecisionintheestimatesofthetargetvariables.Stratificationcanleadtosubstantialimprovementsintheprecisionofsampleestimators,whichnotonlydependsonthesamplesize,butalsoontheheterogeneityamongtheunitsofthepopulation.Theprincipalreasonforstratificationin
5、thedesignofsamplesurveysistoreducethevarianceofsampleestimates.Surveysnormallyhavemorethanonetargetvariablewithseveralvariablesbothavailableanddesirableforstratification.Stratificationinsuchmultivariatesituationshasnotbeenexploredtoagreatdealliketheunivariatecas
6、eandrequiresalgorithmstodetermineefficientstratumboundaries.Thispapertakesintoconsiderationmultiplesurveyvariablesandattemptstopresentacomputationalproceduretoconstructoptimalstratumboundaries(OSB)usingDynamicProgramming(DP)technique.Anumericalexampletodetermine
